Irina Rasskin Gutman

Irina Rasskin Gutman is an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology and Anthropology (area of Developmental and Educational Psychology) at the University of Extremadura (UEx). She holds a PhD in Psychology with a thesis entitled “Identity and Otherness in the Multicultural School: A Critical Ethnography” (Autonomous University of Madrid, 2012). From 2012 to 2013, she worked as a full-time lecturer at the Postgraduate Department of the Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial (Quito, Ecuador). She has carried out pre-doctoral research stays (from 2006 to 2008) at York University (Toronto, Canada), UCSD (San Diego, California, USA), and UPENN (Philadelphia, USA) related to the study of educational practices and migrant populations. Moreover, a one-year post-doctoral research stay (2022-23) at the Interdisciplinary Center for Social Sciences of Azores University (Portugal), focused on studying the identity construction of university students after participating in a transnational innovation and community development Erasmus+ project (ESCUTA), a project in which she was also part of from 2020 to 2023. She is currently participating in a Horizon Europe project (2023-2026) titled: “TRANS-Lighthouses: More than Green – Lighthouses of transformative nature-based solutions for inclusive communities” (HORIZON-CL6-2022-COMMUNITIES-01), and an I+D+i (2023-2027) titled: “LEARNER: Learner identity and formative trajectories in secondary education: curricular policies, pedagogical practices, and students’ social contexts” (PID2022-140783NB-I00). Throughout her academic trajectory, she has covered different research topics highlighting: 1) education and intercultural communication, 2) identity construction, 3) citizen participation and community development, and 3) welfare and health.
